This spring the Jean McLaughlin Outdoor Education & Research Center at the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma is set to host three creative and fun workshops guaranteed to inspire curiosity and enjoyment for scientists of all ages.

Participants can choose between making cheese, sourcing and creating plant-based watercolor paints, and migratory bird watching in addition to a photography masterclass.

“The biggest goal for us is to help people get comfortable being outside. Oklahoma can be very limited in public space and green space opportunities for exploration,” said Dr. Rachel Jones, dean of the school of science and physical education. “Through these workshops, we want to get people outside learning about the outdoors so they're less scared of taking that first hike outdoors, camping or fishing.”

  • Saturday, Feb. 17, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Using milk from a local dairy farmer, participants will explore various fermentation processes and craft their own cheese.
