USAO provides only Deaf education program in Oklahoma
March 10, 2021
USAO's Deaf education program was established in 1945 and has been nationally recognized for its quality in teacher education and support of the Deaf community. Since then, we have become the only university in Oklahoma to offer a program in Deaf Education.
Originally created as the Jane Brooks School for the Deaf in 1953, the Oklahoma School for the Deaf continues the mission of providing an individualized education created to fit the needs of the littles. Located on campus, the school also allows USAO Deaf Education majors hands-on, real world perspectives as early as their freshman year.
