USAO Developing Innovative 90-Hour Bachelor's Degree

The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma is developing an accelerated 90-hour Bachelor of Applied Science in Management, that could allow students to earn a degree faster and at a lower cost while preparing for high-demand careers across Oklahoma.

Recent updates to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s academic policy allow institutional proposals for bachelor’s degrees requiring between 90 and 119 credit hours. Traditional bachelor’s degrees require a minimum of 120 credit hours.

“This program is a monumental milestone for higher education,” said Kayla Hale, President of USAO. “We are honored that we are able to provide for current, future, and returning students in a way that will allow their goals to be more accessible than they thought possible.”

Designed in consultation with industry partners and workforce stakeholders, the accelerated degree will offer professional pathways tailored to meet Oklahoma’s workforce needs and high-demand industries. Pathways could include:

  • Hospitality and Casino Management
  • Healthcare Management
  • Finance and Banking Management
  • Human Resources Management
  • Oil and Gas Management

While designed for workforce readiness, the degree will maintain USAO's distinctive emphasis on critical thinking, communication, ethical decision-making and problem-solving skills sought by today's employers.

Pending final approval by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, USAO plans to begin offering this degree in fall 2027.

“USAO’s 90-hour Bachelor of Applied Science in Management degree reflects our commitment to expanding access to higher education while preparing students for success in an evolving workforce,” said Amy Goddard, director of workforce education and online programs.

“By creating a more flexible path to degree completion, we're helping students earn a bachelor's degree that combines practical management skills with workforce-aligned professional pathway options designed to meet Oklahoma's evolving industry needs.”
