The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma’s Concert Choir will present a holiday concert on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m., at the First Christian Church, located at 202 S. 6th St. in Chickasha. Featuring seasonal music for voice, piano, organ and flute, the performance is free and open to the public.

Featuring musical selections from the Renaissance up to the present day, the choir will perform celebrated works such as Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria Patri et Filio,” and Eustache du Caurroy’s “Noel, noel,” as well as works from contemporary American composers Sally Albrecht, Greg Gilpin, Ruth Morris Gray and Jonny Priano. Each piece will be sung in its original language, which include English, French, German and Latin.

“Please be our guest at this performance of festive holiday music,” said Dr. Jan Hanson, professor of music and choir conductor. “There are many wonderful ways to celebrate this season, including the famous Festival of Light, which opens the evening before our concert. We welcome people from all over to revel in this joyous time of year with these two fantastic, free events.”

Complementing Hanson’s role as conductor, Rhenada Finch, instructor of piano, will perform as a collaborative artist on organ and piano. Featured students include senior music education major and pianist Denise Kimball, sophomore music education major and flautist Lezlee Bull and freshman saxophonist Blaine Warren. Warren is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer and U.S. Army veteran who has chosen to complete his bachelor’s degree at USAO.

The USAO Concert Choir is a choral ensemble made up of students representing more than a dozen majors throughout the university. The Concert Choir has performed in collaboration with local public school and university choirs. The Concert Choir is regularly invited to sing for local community and campus events.
