The University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma’s music department invites the community to ring in the holiday season with three exceptional performances this November. From festive carols at the Chickasha Festival of Light to iconic works of opera, musical theater, and classical music, USAO students and faculty are bringing music lovers of all ages something to enjoy.

“Making music for our community is truly our favorite part of studying music. We love sharing the stage with others from the community and bringing the joy of music to events like the Festival’s opening ceremony,” says Joshua Stephen Smith, assistant professor of music and director of choirs.

The first performance of the season will feature the USAO Concert Choir and Brass Choir on Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. at the opening ceremony for Chickasha’s Festival of Light. The choir and instrumental students will perform classic Christmas pieces such as “Do You Hear What I Hear” and “Carol of the Bells” alongside standard carols of the season. This event will bring the spirit of the season to one of Chickasha’s most beloved traditions.

Next, enjoy “One Winter’s Night: An Evening of Opera & Musical Theatre” on Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Te Ata Memorial Auditorium. This opera scenes performance will feature memorable works from Carmen, Le nozze di Figaro, Les Misérables, La bohème, Hadestown, Guys and Dolls, and more.

The celebrations conclude with “A Celebration of Holst” on Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Te Ata Memorial Auditorium. Honoring the 150th birthday of renowned composer Gustav Holst, the USAO Concert Band will present a stunning tribute to one of classical music’s most influential figures.

All performances are free and open to the public. For more information, visit usao.edu/music
