International Students Club Wins Event of the Year
The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma’s International Students Club are celebrating a surge of community connection and visibility; winning Event of the Year at Chickasha’s 103rd Annual Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet.
The International Students Club, which hosted its inaugural “Taste the World” food festival in November, has transitioned from a support network for incoming students to a recognized force for spiritual and social impact on campus. The club’s President, Crispin Mbii, noted that the groups momentum is a testament to the diverse international community finding common ground in faith.
“When I moved here, I didn’t know what to expect. I felt alone;” Quoted Mbii. “But then I found a whole group of people who shared my faith, and I knew this was the right school.”
The winning announcement, which included an emotional congratulatory speech from USAO President Kayla Hale, resulted in a standing ovation from those in attendance.
“President Hale herself was emotional – we all were.” Said Mbii. “No words can explain it.”
This milestone follows a period of significant public recognition for the International Students Club. Chickasha Mayor Zachary Grayson proclaimed November 16th, 2025, as “Taste the World Day,” honoring the club’s efforts to build strong connections through culture and community service. Matija Malenovic, representative of the International Students Club, emphasized that the club’s mission is to facilitate easier transitions for international students while fostering meaningful friendships within Chickasha.
“The entire room the festival was being held in was packed.” Stated an enthusiastic community member. “People were lined up outside the doors before it even began. The food was delicious, and each and every single one of the members are the kindest, most genuine people I have ever met. You can tell their hearts are really set on making a difference for the better. They absolutely deserved that award.”
Under their slogan, “United by gratitude, driven to serve,” Malenovic, Mbii, and Thiago Fasano, an equal party in the leadership of the International Students Club, are looking to expand their outreach. The club plans to continue its dual focus on cultural celebration and spiritual support, ensuring that every international student finds a sense of home and purpose in Oklahoma.
“We look forward to giving back through community service.” Mbii said. “We’re trusting God’s will for our club.”
