The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma’s International Student’s Club will host its biggest anticipated event – “Taste the World”. The first annual cultural food festival will be held on Sunday, November 16, from 6 – 8 p.m. in the USAO ballroom. The event is free, open to the public, and celebrates global diversity through cuisine.
The event will feature authentic dishes prepared by students representing more than 15 countries, including Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Brazil, England, Ghana, Iceland, Jamaica, Mexica, Norway, Serbia, and Spain. The International Student’s Club, which boasts more than 50 members from 37 different countries, aims to share the culinary traditions of its members with the Chickasha community.
In an exciting twist, the prepared food will be judged by the community. Anyone will be able to vote for their favorite dish by using a QR code provided at the event. The winning dish will be cooked and offered in the campus cafeteria menu by Sodexo, USAO’s on-campus catering service.
Matija Malenovic, a senior USAO student and representative of the International Students Club, highlighted the event’s dual mission of cultural exchange and community integration.
“We’re working on connecting the Chickasha community by exchanging our cultures and getting to know each other.” Malenovic said. “It’s a great chance to meet some of the people outside of campus, and in general, have fun and enjoy good food.”
The public is encouraged to attend, sample the diverse array of international foods, and learn more about the cultures represented by USAO’s student body.
