Oklahoma Literacy Association to Host at USAO
The Oklahoma Literacy Association will host its annual conference, ‘Literacy For All’, on Friday, February 27th, at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. The daylong event aims to provide Oklahoma educators with innovative tools and strategies to support a diverse range of learners.
The conference, which runs from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in both the USAO Ballroom and Gary Hall, serves as a hub for professional development and connection for teachers across the state.
This year’s keynote speaker is Colby Sharp, a prominent figure in the literacy community and a current fifth-grade teacher. Sharp is the co-founder of the Nerdy Book Club and “Nerd Camp”, as well as a co-host of the popular X (formerly known as Twitter) chats #TitleTalk and #SharpSchu.
Sharp’s lecture ‘What My 5th Graders Taught Me About Falling in Love with Reading,’ will draw on Sharp’s firsthand classroom experiences. His presentation will explore the various pathways students take to discover a genuine passion for learning.
The conference will also feature Annie Davis as the Oklahoma Guest Author. Davis serves as the Professional Development Coordinator for Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom. She is the author of the picture book Flat and the chapter book Flat Aggie and Annie.
‘Literacy For All’ is designed to celebrate the dedication of Oklahoma educators while offering fresh classroom ideas and exploration of new instructional tools.
