Federal funds are best identified by searching Grants.gov. The USAO Grants & Proposals office searches Grants.gov on a weekly basis to identify opportunities that are especially suited to the university. These are posted on the Funding Opportunities page.
Selected private funding sources
- Alfred P. Sloan Foundation
- Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s core programs support exemplary and inspiring institutions of higher education and culture. The Foundation makes grants in four core program areas: Higher Learning; Arts and Culture; Public Knowledge; and Humanities in Place.
- ECMC Foundation mainly makes grants in two focus areas: Career Readiness and College Success. The foundation is especially interested in proposals that focus on implementing systemic reforms to increase college success and career readiness for students from underserved backgrounds.
- Carnegie Corp of New York funding includes education and strengthening democracy.
- Howard Hughes Medical Institute, through its Undergraduate and Graduate Programs (UGP) group pursues ideas aimed at improving science education in the U.S. The programs are centered on inclusion and equitable learning environments that support all students.
- Spencer Foundation seeks to invest in education research that is transformative, methodologically rigorous, and helps create a better society; support high-quality education research training; broaden the diversity of scholars and scholarship in education research; strengthen the impact of education research for improving educational practice; and make education research more accessible to public audiences.
- The Teagle Foundation works to support and strengthen liberal arts education, which it sees as fundamental to meaningful work, effective citizenship, and a fulfilling life. Its aim is to serve as a catalyst for the improvement of teaching and learning in the arts and sciences while addressing issues of financial sustainability and accountability in higher education.
