The University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma is ready to awaken college memories Nov. 5-7 during the 2021 Homecoming Weekend. This fun, hybrid event will allow both in-person and online participation through the Whova platform. In-person attendees will use the Whova app to keep track of events and network with other Drovers, while digital participants can use the app or a computer to stream events.

This year’s theme, “Green and Golden Years,” ties seamlessly into the 20th anniversary of USAO’ men’s basketball team winning the NAIA National Championship. Events will honor the team throughout the weekend, including a rally and bonfire kicking off the current basketball season, an outdoor showing of the championship game at the historic Greek Theatre, a special program in the annual Awards Brunch, and at the pregame festivities before the season-opening game between USAO and Midwestern State University.

“We are so excited about bringing Homecoming to everyone through the Whova platform this year, with one-stop shopping for registration, check-in, the events schedule, streaming and networking” said Dawn Reitan Brockman, director of alumni relations and university development. “Our goal is connection and I believe we have found a way to meet everyone’s needs as we continue to navigate a post-COVID world. Bridging both geographic and health barriers to unite our alumni is the overarching goal—we want you home for the weekend, regardless of your situation.”

In light of COVID-19, most of the weekend’s events will be outdoors to limit potential transmission. For the few indoor events, masks are recommended as well as physical distancing of at least three feet, regardless of an individual’s vaccination status, per CDC guidelines.

The 2021 Homecoming Weekend will provide non-stop athletic offerings from volleyball, soccer and basketball, as well as the annual golf tournament and alumni baseball and softball games. All of the beloved USAO traditions will also be honored, including the annual Awards Brunch, Alumni Association Business Meeting, singing on the steps and memorial service. For the competitive, a campus scavenger hunt will pit teams against each other for fun alumni merchandise.
