Dr. Dany Doughan, associate professor of chemistry at the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma, has been selected to participate in the 2024 Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists Outreach Champions Program at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

The 2024 program aims to introduce administrators and faculty from minority serving institutions to Brookhaven National Laboratory and the broader Department of Energy complex. By fostering these connections, the program seeks to enhance student internship opportunities and expand faculty research capacity within the national laboratory system.

Doughan, who joined the faculty at USAO in 2018, brings with him a wealth of knowledge in chemistry and computer science.

"It is an honor to be chosen as an ambassador for Brookhaven National Laboratory and further USAO’s mission of promoting STEM education and research," said Doughan. "This opportunity will allow me to deepen my understanding of research opportunities at the national level, explore valuable internships for our students, and foster enduring collaborations for our faculty and the broader scientific community."

The WDTS Outreach Champions program supports the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science commitment to advancing a diverse, equitable and inclusive research community, which is key to providing the scientific and technical expertise for U.S. leadership in its mission areas. Under the Office of Science, the Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists works with DOE national laboratories including Brookhaven National Laboratory to expand STEM workforce training opportunities to students and faculty from minority serving institutions, community colleges and other institutions under-represented in Office of Science research.
