Members of the Chickasha High School Band are set to take the stage to perform the opening number with The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra as part of the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma’s Davis-Waldorf Performing Arts Series.

The performance will take place Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Te Ata Memorial Auditorium on campus.

Julianne Annesley, Chickasha High School band director, has been hard at work rehearsing with a small ensemble of students who will join the orchestra . This opportunity is only one of the educational outreach activities supported by the DWPAS this season.

Tickets for this performance cost $20 for the public and are available, until sold out, at the door. Tickets for K-12 students, as available, are free of charge, thanks to continued support of this series from the Chickasha Public Schools Foundation.

The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra is the most sought-after big band in the world. Continuing in the footsteps of the beloved bandleader, this 18-member ensemble plays many of Miller’s original arrangements of jazz standards from the Swing era of the 1930s and ‘40s, as well as modern selections performed in the distinctive style and sound that Miller developed. This group was part of the inaugural season of the DWPAS and returns to Chickasha after 22 seasons to thrill those who love them and introduce their distinctive sound to new audiences.

“Audiences will want to arrive early for this very popular performance,” said Katie Davis, USAO professor of theatre arts and executive director of the DWPAS. “We have had exceptional response for this show, and we expect to have every seat filled. The box office for the performance will open at 6:45 p.m. that evening and we invite early arrivals.”
