FLY Dance Company to bring unique mix of entertainment to USAO

Just in time to be part of your Valentine’s Day celebrations, the Houston-based FLY Dance Company will bring their electrifying program, “The Gentlemen of Hip-Hop,” to Chickasha as the next act in the 17th season of the Davis-Waldorf Performing Arts Series (DWPAS).

The performance will be held Feb. 15. at 7:30 p.m. in the Davis Hall Theater. Tickets are $15 for the general public with a $5 discount for K-12 students and seniors 60+.

Originally formed in 2001 by a retired public-school dance teacher, FLY Dance Company mixes the dancers’ athleticism with a wide variety of classic choreography techniques, acting, costuming, comedy and positive social messages. Their style of “theatrical hip-hop” draws enthusiastic responses from audiences of all types.

“These young men’s mix of hip-hop, classical and modern dance is a perfect match to the mission of our performing arts series,” said Katie Davis professor of theatre arts and series coordinator. “Not only that, FLY will perform for the public the night after Valentine’s Day, so affordable tickets to this fun and exciting event will make a perfect date-night gift! You’ll just love the creativity of this show, especially with music that you recognize and love!”

The Davis-Waldorf Performing Arts Series is made possible in part by support from the Chickasha Public School Foundation, Ad Astra Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, Oklahoma Arts Council and the USAO Foundation. Its mission is to encourage attendance at high-quality performing arts events as an aspect of a liberal arts education, to provide an affordable entertainment resource for our college family and our community, and to become a leader in local arts education by presenting relevant and culturally diverse programming that reflects and broadens the aesthetic of our audiences.
