The University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma invites sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students to register for the "How to Have a Healthy Summer" camp. Imagine a “Chopped” challenge using everyday pantry supplies instead of exotic ingredients. The free camp will be held July 24-26, with another session available July 29-31.

Students will gain hands-on experience in preparing healthy meals that they can recreate at home, fostering lifelong healthy eating habits. In addition to culinary skills, participants will enjoy activities such as yoga and stretching, designed to reduce stress and promote overall well-being.

"This camp teaches fun and useful skills that are interactive for this age group," said Dr. Jeannette Loutsch, professor of biology. "Engaging kids in healthy habits early on is the best way to build foundations that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives."

Each student will leave the camp with their very own USAO cookbook, packed with the recipes learned during the week and other easy-to-prepare dishes that the whole family will love.

The camp will be led by USAO science faculty including Loutsch; Dr. Rachel Jones, dean of the School of Science & Physical Education; and Kassy Hanson, instructor of physical education. This day camp is free to attend, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate in this experience.

The camp is made possible through the generous support by The Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma and the USAO School of Science & Physical Education.
