Giving her students the tools to compete in today’s business world is one of the goals of Wendi Ferrell, one of the newest faculty members at the University of Science and Arts. Ferrell joined USAO in August as instructor in business administration. She replaces Dr. Linda Crumb, who retired from USAO in April after 26 years of teaching.

“First and foremost, my goal is to help students achieve their educational and career goals. In keeping with that goal, I feel it is imperative to give my students the tools to compete and succeed in a fast-paced business world,” Ferrell said. “In addition, I hope to inspire students to be astutely aware of what is going on in the business world around them and to form their individual opinions -- regardless of the issues.”

Before USAO, Ferrell was the leadership and recruitment coordinator/program supervisor for Caddo Kiowa Technology Center in Fort Cobb. She coordinated the Washita Valley Leadership Program, was the trainer for the Prudential Youth Leadership Institute and served as the self employment training coordinator. She also served as supervisor for the culinary arts, school nurse, hotel and restaurant management and criminal justice programs.

She was an instructor at Western Oklahoma State College and Southwest Technology Center in Altus. Ferrell was also a business and computer technology instructor at Caddo Kiowa Technology Center.

Ferrell says USAO’s liberal arts mission drew her to the university. “USAO’s commitment to liberal arts education and interdisciplinary studies align with my personal philosophy.

“The atmosphere at USAO is so friendly and supportive. I really enjoy working in a family-like climate and believe that individuals can reach their highest potential when supported by a caring, student-centered faculty.”

Ferrell received her master’s of business administration at Cameron University, a bachelor of science-business education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and a vocational endorsement from the University of Central Oklahoma. She is pursuing a doctoral degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Ferrell was named the 2007 Outstanding Educator of the Year -- Oklahoma Association for Career and Technology Education, Customized Business and Industry Training Services. She was also named the Mt. Plains Region Teacher of the Year for 1998-99 and the Oklahoma Business Education Association Teacher of the Year 1998-98.
