Informational meeting to cover 2016 travel opportunities
A meeting to discuss international travel opportunities in 2016 is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, in Davis Hall Room 120.
The meeting is open to anyone interested in traveling on either of the two trips being offered next May: a tour of England and Scotland, led by Dr. Brenda Brown, professor of English; and a trip to Costa Rica, led by Dr. Jason Shaw, assistant professor of biology.
The 12-day United Kingdom trip, led by Brown, will include several days in London to visit Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace and much more; a day in Oxford; and a train voyage to Scotland where the group will spend four days exploring Edinburgh and partake in a Highlands Excursion.
The Costa Rica trip, led by Shaw, will include overnight stays in San Jose and the coastal towns of Cahuita and Tortuguero. Snorkeling and white water rafting excursions are planned.
Both trips will take place in May 2016.
“We plan these trips over a year in advance so students and other travelers can lock in the best prices early and have a year to make financial arrangements,” Brown said.
“One of the nice things about these trips is that the tour companies we enlist take care of all the arrangements, provide tour guides, and allow adequate time for travelers to explore on their own in addition to the group activities. These travel opportunities provide students with a global perspective, allow them to be immersed in a different culture, and experience some incredible historic sites and museums,” offered Brown, who has led numerous trips abroad.
USAO offers a growing study abroad program under Brown’s direction.
Each year, USAO sponsors faculty-led educational travel abroad opportunities for students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community. Students have the opportunity to earn course credit for the experience.
