Music Seniors Present April Recitals at USAO

CHICKASHA – Two music seniors are performing recitals in April at the University of Science and Arts to display both their vocal and instrumental talents.

On April 2, Dibble senior Danyele Oxford will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the USAO Alumni Chapel. The mezzo-soprano will both play the trumpet and sing throughout the evening. Oxford’s program features “A Trumpeter’s Lullaby” by Leroy Anderson, a Ralph Vaughn Williams piece, as well as songs by Italian composers.

A young woman of multiple talents, Oxford was selected recently to perform with the state’s All-Collegiate Choir in March and the All-Collegiate Band in January.

Little Rock, Ark., music senior Jonathan Benecke will present his recital on April 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Benecke’s 12-song recital includes piano performances and selections for tenor voice.

Benecke will perform songs in multiple languages, including Italian, French and German. His pieces include works by classical composers Brahms and Mozart and a gospel song, “At the River,” by Charles Ives.

“These two have really worked hard for the music department over the past few years,” said Dr. Ken Bohannon, associate professor of music. “From pep band, choir, concert band and opera productions like ‘The Quantum Field Trip’ and ‘The Magic Flute,’ they have served us well. We will miss their presence.”

Both recitals are free and open to the public.
