OKC Students Team Up with World Renowned Violinist to Ring in Holiday Season

Northwest Classen High School (NWCHS) student musicians are slated to join with celebrated violinist Yuval Waldman to present a holiday music program entitled Holiday Concert Under the Dome on Dec. 5.

Set in the Gold Dome building at 23rd and Classen, the concert will feature two groups from NWCHS, the “Cry-Slurs” chamber choir and a trombone ensemble. Both are under the direction of Rheuben Green of Oklahoma City.

The chamber choir is slated to perform a collection of modern holiday classics including, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and “Jingle Bells Throughout the Ages.” The trombone choir’s repertoire will have more of a classical slant, featuring works by Haydn and Antonio Lotti as well as the spiritual “Go Tell It On a Mountain.”

Waldman is expected to conduct and perform the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by Astor Piazzolla and Concerto in E major by Johann Sebastian Bach. He will be accompanied by a string quartet of his own selection.

Waldman, a Russian-born Israeli violinist who has performed around the globe, serves as creative director for this second Holiday Music Under the Dome event. In Oklahoma, Waldman is known for the highly imaginative three-year series on great composers at USAO.

The concert, set for 3 p.m. Dec. 5, is made possible by the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Foundation in Chickasha and the Gold Dome Multicultural Society of Oklahoma City.

Tickets are $15 and available at www.usao.edu/dome or by calling 405-574-1355. The concert will benefit the Gold Dome Multicultural Society and music programs at USAO.
