USAO’s performing arts series makes time change to final spring show

The University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma’s Davis-Waldorf Performing Arts series announces a time change for the final show of its 24th season. On March 27 the sketch comedy and improv show celebrating the 65th year of the Second City Touring Company will be performed in the Te Ata Memorial Auditorium beginning at 6:30pm.
Season ticket holders and others who have purchased single tickets will only need to bring their issued ticket with them to the show; current online sales will issue tickets with the updated showtime.
The Second City Touring Company is excited to return to Chickasha to delight audiences with their famous blend of comedy and audience-interactive improvisational theatre. This company performed at USAO during Season 17 of the DWPAS. The actors are touring company members of the Second City, which debuted in 1959 and is the oldest improvisational theatre troupe to be continuously based in Chicago; it also now boasts training programs and live theatres in Toronto and New York. This anniversary show may feature scenes developed by alumni such as Catherine O’Hara, Tina Fey, Keegan-Michael Key, Stephen Colbert, Bill Murray, Joan Rivers, or others.
While in residence on campus, the company will lead a group of USAO students in a workshop designed to introduce the basic skills and format of short and long form improvisation. Katie Davis, Professor of Theatre and Executive Director of the DWPAS said, “It’s a fantastic opportunity for our students to have a masterclass opportunity with some of the most skilled people in this field. I hope it excites their interest in acting and fuels their dreams. We have at least one alumnus from our theatre program who went from Oklahoma to Chicago to study with The Second City. I love the impact that presenting professional performance has on our students and how it can inspire actors in our community.” Davis will teach the Acting III class, with a focus in Improvisation, during the 2025 Summer term.
Tickets to see The Second City are available, cost $25 each for adults, and can be purchased online at www.usao.edu/dwpas. All performances of the DWPAS are free for k12 students thanks to a partnership with the Chickasha Public Schools Foundation and free for USAO students thanks to support from the Culture and Recreation Committee. The Second City show may contain language or themes that are most appropriate for teens and adults.
The DWPAS is a project of the USAO Foundation that is supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Oklahoma Arts Council, Mid-America Arts Alliance, and with gifts from community sponsors. Direct questions to dwpas@usao.edu .
