USAO professor to present at the American Academy of Religion Conference
Dr. Zach Simpson, professor of philosophy and religious studies at the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma, has been selected to present his research at the American Academy of Religion Annual Meeting, the world’s largest religion conference, held Nov. 23-26 in San Diego. This is a notable achievement, as very few papers are accepted for presentation at this highly selective event.
“I’m excited to be attending,” said Simpson. “It’s the largest conference for the study of religion in the world. It’s exciting to be around so many scholars presenting their latest research. At the conference, I’ll be discussing issues surrounding religious liberty and the public sphere in popular culture, specifically the National Hockey League. I’m eager to talk about these ideas with colleagues and other scholars!”
The AAR consists of more than 6,000 members globally. The conference, hosted jointly by AAR and the Society of Biblical Literature, brings together scholars from diverse fields to examine the complex role of religion in society.
Zach Simpson specializes in contemporary continental philosophy, philosophy of religion, science and religion, and the history of ideas. At USAO, he teaches broadly in philosophy, religious studies, and the World Thought and Culture sequence.
