Variety best describes the career of Dr. Coeta Grimes Evans, whether in education,
French, foods or research. Dr. Evans, professor emeritus, Northwestern Oklahoma State
University, graduated from Oklahoma College for Women in 1951. She studied at Phillips
University; University of Clermont-Ferrand in Vichy, France; Univesity of Grenoble
in Grenoble, France; Oklahoma State University; and completed a licensed dietitian
internship in Dallas, Texas. Many varied career experiences include high school teacher;
French teacher; acting director of Department of Public Welfare, Kingfisher County;
faculty advisor to Future Homemakers of America on local and district levels; foreign
student advisor to French speaking students; and chairperson and associate professor
of Home Economics at Northwestern State University. She advised the United States
Department of Agriculture Research Teams from Kansas and Oklahoma. Research also includes
curriculum guide for Oklahoma Vocational Home Economics Experimental foods and recipes;
and DAR Woods County Wall for the National Society of the Daughters of the American
Revolution and Oklahoma Centennial Celebrations. She has completed many projects and
displays in the Cherokee Strip Museum. Honors include National Golden Circle of Friends
and State Honorary Member of Future Homemakers of America; Honor Board Member of the
Cherokee Strip Museum; and State Regents Recognition as Home Economics Emeritus. The
American Institute for Foreign Study also honored her with special recognition for
outstanding service.
