Te-Ata Statue Dedication Ceremony

Te-Ata Statue Dedication Ceremony

10:00 AM Apr 25, 2014 | In Front of Troutt Hall

President John Feaver, US Congressman Tom Cole and Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby preside over the official dedication ceremony of the statue of Te Ata Fisher beginning at 10 a.m. on April 25 in the Oval on the campus of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

The event is free and all members of the public are invited.

Feaver, Cole and Anoatubby will be in attendance as renowned actor Tana Takes Horse reprises her role as Te Ata from Judy Lee Oliva's play that debuted at USAO in 2006.

The statue's artist, Jon Hair, will offer insights into his vision for the project.

Gene Thompson, Te Ata’s great-nephew, and family will sanctify the dedication with a ceremonial smudging.

The statue was installed earlier this year in the USAO Oval, in front of Troutt Hall. Watch the installation video here:
