Scholarships

NEW FRESHMEN

All students newly admitted to USAO are evaluated for scholarship eligibility. Six semester transcripts and ACT/SAT scores are required for freshmen scholarship evaluation.  Complete college transcripts are required for transfer scholarship evaluation.  USAO will begin awarding 2020-2021 freshmen scholarships by December 1, 2019.  Students may only receive one academic or talent scholarship unless otherwise noted.  Students receiving a one-year scholarship are encouraged to apply each spring for continuing student scholarships in subsequent years.

All scholarships are competitive and may change annually depending upon scholarship funding availability and other institutional factors. Students must be enrolled full-time, be degree-seeking, and meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy.

Priority Date: November 1, 2019
Estimated Value: $13,420 per year

Scholarship amount is dependent upon enrollment status and the student's final financial aid package. Must be an Oklahoma resident and U.S. citizen to apply.

Automatic Qualifiers:

  • Named a President Scholar by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Named a National Merit Scholar or National Merit Finalist.
  • Scoring in the 99th percentile on a national ACT.
  • Application is made directly through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education

Institutional Nomination (up to 3):

  • National ACT composite score of 30 or SAT equivalent, preference to those with a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • GPA of 3.8 or higher on a 4.00 scale and rank in the top 4% of their high school class.
  • Application is made through the USAO admissions process.

Scholarship Information:

  • 4-year scholarship.
  • Covers cost of tuition and course related fees.
  • Room Waiver: cost of double occupancy Sparks Hall, equivalent amount can be used towards any USAO housing option.
  • Food Waiver: cost of 14 Cafeteria Meals + $200 Flex meal plan or one of lesser value.
  • Student must actively live on campus in order to receive room and food waivers.

Scholarship Maintenance:

  • Maintained with a retention GPA of 3.25.
  • Must be enrolled full time each fall and spring, completing a minimum of 24 credit hours each academic year.

There is a limited number of scholarships and selection will be highly competitive. Scholarship amount is dependent upon enrollment status and the student's final financial aid package.

  • Minimum national ACT composite score of 30 or SAT equivalent and an exceptional high school GPA and rank (preference given to minimum 3.50 GPA on a 4.0 scale).

Scholarship Information:

  • 4-year scholarship.
  • Covers cost of tuition and course related fees.
  • Room Waiver: cost of double occupancy Sparks Hall, equivalent amount can be used towards any USAO housing option.

Complete applications and supporting documents must be received by the Financial Aid Office on or before February 7, 2020 to be considered. No exceptions.

Application Requirements:

  • Open to high school seniors.
  • 5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Composite ACT score of 24 or SAT equivalent.
  • Must be an Oklahoma resident and a U.S. citizen.

Scholarship Information:

  • 4-year scholarship.
  • $3,800 Tuition Waiver ($1,900 in both fall and spring).
  • Room Waiver: cost of double occupancy in Sparks Hall, equivalent amount can be used towards any USAO housing option. Must actively live on campus to receive room waiver.
  • Must be enrolled full time each fall and spring.
  • Recipients must maintain contract requirements (GPA, attendance, leadership positions, participation, etc.) for renewal each year. 

Priority Date: November 1, 2019
Estimated Value: $4,000 per year

This scholarship may be stacked with other USAO Foundation Scholarships, but will not be stacked with other USAO in-state tuition waiver scholarships (such as Drover Academic). Eleven recipients may be selected, a minimum of 4 must be education degree related.

Scholarship Information:

  • 4-year scholarship.
  • Open to high school seniors.
  • Non-education related recipients must have a minimum 28 composite ACT or SAT equivalent and a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Education related recipients not meeting the regular scholarship requirement will be reviewed on a case by case basis, with preference given to 3.50 minimum GPA on a 4.0 scale and exceptional ACT/SAT composite score.
  • Not limited to Oklahoma residents, but must be a U.S. citizen.

Scholarship Maintenance:

  • Must maintain a 2.75 GPA.
  • Must be enrolled full time each fall and spring.
  • Must meet satisfactory academic progress.

Priority Date: November 1, 2019
Estimated Value: $2,500 per year

This is a partial room scholarship that can be applied to all USAO housing options. Students must actively live on campus to receive the scholarship.  May be stacked with other scholarships. Scholarships are limited and selective.

Scholarship Information:

  • 4-year scholarship.
  • Open to high school seniors.
  • GPA of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale and a minimum composite ACT score of 19 or SAT equivalent.
  • Not limited to Oklahoma residents, but must be a U.S. citizen.

Scholarship Maintenance:

  • Must be enrolled full time each fall and spring.
  • Must maintain a 2.75 GPA and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress

Estimated Value: $3,600 per year

Scholarship Information:

  • 1-Year scholarship.
  • Open to high school seniors.
  • GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and a minimum composite ACT score of 27 or SAT equivalent.
  • Must be an Oklahoma resident and a U.S. citizen.

Scholarship is a partial tuition waiver.

Estimated Value: $3,200 per year

Scholarship Information:

  • 1-Year scholarship.
  • Open to high school seniors.
  • GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and a minimum composite ACT score of 24 or SAT equivalent.
  • Must be an Oklahoma resident and a U.S. citizen.

Scholarship is a partial tuition waiver.

Estimated Value: $1,200 - $2,200 per year

Scholarship Information:

  • 1-Year scholarship.
  • Open to high school seniors.
  • GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and a minimum composite ACT score of 22 or SAT equivalent.
  • Must be an Oklahoma resident and a U.S. citizen.

Scholarship is a partial tuition waiver.

Estimated Value: $3,200 - $3,600 per year

Given for talent in Art, Theatre, and Music. A demonstration of talent is required through an audition, portfolio review, etc. Recommendations are provided by each department to the Financial Aid Office.

Students must be declared Music majors and audition for the scholarship. This scholarship is highly competitive and limited to four per year. Recommendations are provided by the Music Department to the Financial Aid Office.

Scholarship Information:

  • 4-Year Scholarship.
  • Open to high school seniors.
  • Value of full in-state tuition waiver up to 18 credit hours each fall and spring.
  • GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and a minimum composite ACT score of 20 or SAT equivalent.

Scholarship Maintenance:

  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA.
  • Student must have continuous enrollment in recital and a major ensemble.
  • Student must enroll in a minimum 15 credit hours each fall and spring.

Estimated Value: Amounts vary based on available funding.

Scholarship Information:

  • Auditions are required. Recommendations are provided by the Spirit Squad sponsor to the Financial Aid Office.
  • Scholarships are partial tuition waivers for one year.

Athletic Scholarships are awarded through the athletic department.  Scholarship information is provided to the Financial Aid Office by each head coach.

Estimated Value: $2,814 per summer term

The Fast Track Scholarship is a tuition waiver for the Independent Study and/or summer term.

Scholarship Information:

  • Available to Oklahoma Residents who graduate from an Oklahoma high school and enter USAO as a beginning first-year student (earning a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester).
  • Must enroll in a minimum of 12 hours during the Independent Study and/or summer term.
  • Scholarship is a summer tuition waiver for up to 14 credit hours.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Scholarship Maintenance:

  • Available 3 consecutive years.
  • Must make satisfactory academic progress.
  • Must remain in continuous, full-time attendance (successfully completing 12 credit hours each semester, including summer terms).

This scholarship is a tuition waiver for high school juniors and seniors who are admitted under the Concurrent Admissions Policy requirements.

High school seniors

  • This scholarship is a tuition waiver for up to a total of 18 credit hours taken during the senior year. Waiver can be used beginning the summer before the senior year of high school and continue through the spring term of the senior year.
  • Student is responsible for student fees and other course related expenses.

High School Juniors

  • This scholarship is a tuition waiver for up to a total of 9 credit hours taken during the junior year. Waiver can be used beginning the summer before the junior year of high school and continue through the spring term of the junior year.
  • Student is responsible for student fees and other course related expenses.


TRANSFER STUDENTS

Priority Date: June 1, 2020
Estimated Value: $6,030 per year

This scholarship may be awarded to two Oklahoma students who are recognized as members of the All-Oklahoma Academic Team at two-year colleges in Oklahoma.

Scholarship Information:

  • 2-Year scholarship.
  • Full tuition waiver each fall and spring.
  • Must have a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.0, preference given to 3.5 and higher. Student must provide complete final college transcripts, resume, and proof of recognition.
  • Oklahoma residency and U.S. citizenship are required.

Scholarship Maintenance:

  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • Must be enrolled full time each fall and spring.

Priority Date: June 1, 2020
Estimated Value: $6,030

This scholarship may be awarded to two Oklahoma students who are Phi Theta Kappa members.  Preference given to 3.0 and higher cumulative transfer GPA.

Scholarship Information:

  • 1-year scholarship.
  • Full tuition waiver in fall and spring.
  • Must have completed Associate’s Degree.
  • Must show academic excellence, leadership service, and campus involvement.
  • Complete final college transcripts and resume, proof of recognition, and proof of Associate’s Degree.
  • Oklahoma residency and U.S. citizenship are required.

Priority Date: June 1, 2020
Estimated Value: $1,000-$2,000 per year

Available to students transferring to USAO. Awards are competitive and values range according to academic profile.

Scholarship Information:

  • 1-year scholarship.
  • Must have a 3.0 minimum cumulative transfer GPA and be making satisfactory academic progress.
  • Must submit complete, final academic transcripts from all prior colleges attended.
  • Oklahoma residency and U.S. citizenship are required.

This scholarship is a partial tuition waiver.


NON-RESIDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Estimated Value: $10,350 per year

This scholarship is for students whose primary residence is outside of Oklahoma. Eligibility for transfer students will be considered based on their academic profile from all college transcripts.

Scholarship Information:

  • 4-year scholarship (transfers will be pro-rated based on grade level status).
  • Full non-resident tuition waiver.
  • Must have a high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and minimum 24 composite ACT or SAT equivalent.
  • Students must be full-time each fall and spring and degree-seeking.
  • Must be U.S. citizen.

Scholarship Maintenance:

  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.75 and satisfactory academic progress.

Estimated Value: $10,350 per year

This scholarship is for students whose primary residence is outside of Oklahoma and are direct descendants (child or grandchild) of a USAO Alum. Eligibility for transfer students will be considered based on their academic profile from all college transcripts.

Scholarship Information:

  • 4-year scholarship (transfers will be pro-rated based on grade level status).
  • Full non-resident tuition waiver.
  • Must be admitted under regular admissions.
  • Students must be full-time each fall and spring and degree-seeking.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Scholarship Maintenance:

  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.00 and meet satisfactory academic progress.

Estimated Value: $7,500 per year

This scholarship is for students whose primary residence is outside of Oklahoma. Eligibility for transfer students will be considered based on their academic profile from all college transcripts.

Scholarship Information:

  • 4-year scholarship (transfers will be pro-rated based on grade level status).
  • Partial non-resident tuition waiver.
  • Must be admitted under regular admissions.
  • Students must be full-time each fall and spring and degree-seeking.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Scholarship Maintenance:

  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.00 and meet satisfactory academic progress.

Continuing students who maintain a cumulative 2.75 college GPA will be reviewed for the full non-resident tuition waiver (see Welcome to Oklahoma Scholarship).

Estimated Value: $7,500 per year

This scholarship is for international students (non-U.S. citizens).  Eligibility for transfer students will be considered based on their academic profile from all college transcripts. (International students who are on an athletics roster will be awarded through Athletics Scholarships.  This scholarship cannot be stacked with an athletic non-resident tuition waiver.)

Scholarship Information:

  • 4-year scholarship (transfers will be pro-rated based on grade level status).
  • Partial non-resident tuition waiver.
  • Must be admitted under regular admissions.
  • Students must be full-time each fall and spring and degree-seeking.

Scholarship Maintenance:

  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.00 and meet satisfactory academic progress.


CONTINUING STUDENTS

Priority Date: April 1, 2020
Estimated Value: $500 to $1,400 per year

2019-2020 Financial Aid Office Update Form

The 2020-2021 form is not yet available. Student email accounts will be notified when the 2020-2021 application is posted online and also available in the Financial Aid Office.

All students who have been attending USAO are encouraged to apply annually for scholarships funded by the USAO Foundation. The Foundation has a significant number of scholarships for continuing full-time students. These scholarships are available for a variety of criteria.

Scholarship Information:

  • Complete a yearly Financial Aid Office Update Form and indicate you want to be considered for a Foundation Scholarship.
  • Provide a brief description of yourself in the appropriate section or provide a resume to the Financial Aid Office.
  • Most scholarships require full-time enrollment status.
  • A minimum 3.0 college GPA.

Paper applications for the 2019-2020 year are also available at the Financial Aid Office in Troutt Hall 112. More information on USAO's Foundation Scholarships can be obtained from the University Advancement Office, Canning Hall, room 101.

Estimated Value: $400 to $1,500 per year.

Students wishing to apply must provide the necessary materials by the deadline to the Office of Alumni Development at Troutt Hall, room 126.
