The USAO history department will host retired United States Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Bryce Lockwood on Thursday, March 9, as the second in a series of guest speakers this semester. Beginning at 6 p.m. in the USAO Ballroom, Lockwood will discuss the attack on the USS Liberty and then lead an open-ended discussion about foreign relations in the United States. The event is free and open to the public.

Droverstock takes place in the oval, the heart of USAO. Droverstock is a free event for USAO students.

The USAO history department will host Dr. David Gargola of the University of Kentucky as the last in a series of guest speakers during the spring 2017 trimester. Gargola will speak in the USAO Ballroom on Friday, April 14, at 3 p.m. The topic of his lecture is “The Fall of the Roman Republic in Western Political Thought.” Gargola will examine the factors that scholars throughout history have considered critical in the collapse of Republican Rome and how Rome’s shift from republic to empire has shaped the political ideologies of western culture .
