Dr. Stephen Weber, Professor of Music and Chair of the Division of Arts and Humanities at USAO, will present an organ concert Monday evening, March 10, at 7:30pm, on the pipe organ at Holy Name Catholic Church, 210 South 7th Street in Chickasha. The concert will be a preview concert of the performances he will give later in the spring in Hungary and Poland.
In the fall of 2013, Weber was extended an invited to perform on the spring 2014 Sunday evening organ concert series at Deák Tėrii Evangélijs Templom in Budapest, Hungary. The series organizer, Finta Gergely, requested that Weber present a concert of works by American composers for organ. In conjunction with the performance, Weber has also been invited to present a lecture at at Theological University in Budapest on the state of church music in the United States. Weber will also present an informal concert at Kościol sw. Marcina (Church of St. Martin) in Krakow, Poland, while he is in Eastern Europe. Weber hopes to arrange an additional performance in Warsaw, Poland.
The concert Weber will present in Chickasha features will feature organ improvisations, toccatas, and interpretations of hymn tunes from the medieval period through the modern era. The program will be organized around the seasonal calendar of the historic liturgical church. In addition to performing works by several significant American composers of organ music, Weber will include several original works from his four collections of published organ music.
The concert is free and open to the public.
