APPLYING FOR OR ESTABLISHING AN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
The USAO Alumni Association oversees more than 90 scholarships established by the generosity of alumni and friends. USAO students will receive scholarship awards ranging from $400 to $1,500 for an academic year. This form is for all Alumni Association scholarships.

This scholarship is awarded annually based solely on scholarship support received as annual scholarship funds. The scholarship is most often used to supplement named, endowed scholarships to bring award amounts to higher levels. The scholarship is open to all USAO students.
The 2011-12 USAO Alumni Association Board of Directors established an endowed USAO Alumni Association Scholarship in honor of all alumni. The USAO Alumni Association was born on the afternoon of May 18, 1917, in the college library, then located on the third floor of the Administration Building. The scholarship is open to all USAO students.
Gina Benzel Ableson Scholarship
Established in 1984, this memorial scholarship will be given to a student with financial need.
Mo Gregg Anderson Scholarship
This scholarship is given to a USAO student in need of financial assistance to pursue an education.
Ruth Schlotterbeck Avery Scholarship
The Ruth Schlotterback Avery Scholarship was established by Richard and Linda Avery.
Senator Don Baldwin
The Senator Don Baldwin Scholarship was established by State Regent John Massey, a banker from Durant.
Ruth Gardner Ball Scholarship
This scholarship awarded to a sophomore or junior communication major who has at least 3.0 grade point average.
Flavia Brown Bare Scholarship
Preference is given to a student in the arts and humanities who has a financial need.
Dr. Kathleen Black Scholarship
This scholarship awarded to a Native American woman, preferably an incoming freshman and can be renewed until she graduates.
Kathryn Kniseley Bond Scholarship
Preference is to be given to a music major.
Marie Scott Brandt Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a female student in financial need.
Mike Brooks Music Scholarship
Preference given to a music major.
Dr. Bonnie Bell Butler Buchanan Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a home economics major if there is a program. If there is not, it is awarded on the basis of need, proven ability as evidenced by grades. The recipient must be single.
Burruss Family Scholarship
The recipient of this scholarship should be a student working his or her way through school, who is of good character.
Zelma Ball Burruss Scholarship
The Zelma Ball Burruss Scholarship is based on need.
Mandy Cecil Scholarship
The Mandy Cecil Scholarship was established by family and friends in honor of the 2012 USAO graduate.
Mildred Matthews Chambless Family Scholarship
Preference female, 35 years old or older, of any major.
Class of 1958 Scholarship
The Class of 1958 Scholarship was initiated as a gift from the class during the 2008 Alumni Homecoming.
Class of 1961 Scholarship
Established by members of the OCW class of 1961, this scholarship is given to a woman in any major at USAO.
Ralph L. Cobb Scholarship
The fund, established through the Virginia Voigt Roeder Wenger Foundation, Inc., will assist business education majors in financial need.
Conover Sisters Scholarship
The scholarship was established by Mildred Conover Watson and Una Jo Conover Teter. Preference is given to USAO students who are female American Indian, preferably an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe.
Craig Foundation Scholarship
This scholarship is to be awarded to a junior or senior taking a minimum of 15 hours, based on need.
Dr. Brenda Stanfill Cranmer Scholarship
The scholarship is open to all USAO students and is based on need.
Shirley Mitchell Duckwall Scholarship
This scholarship is for a student who wishes to be an elementary school teacher.
Lorraine Wooster Eck Scholarship
The scholarship is designed for a music education major to be selected by the alumni scholarship committee or the Division of Arts and Humanities.
Margaret A. Elliott Scholarship
Established by Dr. Virginia Roeder Wenger, this scholarship goes to a junior or senior who is outstanding in English and/or British Literature and poetry.
Virginia Embree Scholarship
The family of Virginia Embree established this scholarship in honor of her memory for a female student.
Kathryn Duncan Empie Scholarship
This scholarship is to be given to an Oklahoma student in the field of speech and language therapy.
Loucile Bennett Evans Scholarship
This scholarship is given to a student majoring in art, picked by the head of the art department. If there is no longer an art department, a student in English or education shall receive the scholarship.
Dr. Samuel W. Evans Scholarship
This scholarship is given to a junior or senior enrolled in the teacher education program.
Fay Craddock Finley Scholarship
In loving memory of Fay, Mary Alice and Suzanne Jackson established this scholarship for a music major.
Janis Marsh Fitzgerald Scholarship
This music scholarship was established by Dan Fitzgerald in memory of Janis who was a 1954 graduate.
Barbara Faith Cunningham Forsythe Scholarship
The Barbara Faith Cunningham Forsythe Scholarship was established by her husband Homer to honor the 1961 OCW graduate. It is a tribute to her dedication and excellence as a teacher and for her inspiration to her students in their academic pursuits.
Hazel Frost Scholarship
This scholarship is to be awarded to a home economics major. If there is no program. It is to be awarded on the basis of need.
Irene Stephens Gibbons Scholarship
Mary Alice, daughter, and Suzanne Jackson, granddaughter, established this scholarship in loving memory of Irene.
Annie Rebecca Minshew Gillis Scholarship
The estate of Lois Gillis Hall established this scholarship in memory of Ms. Hall’s mother. The scholarship is for a student majoring in English.
Calvin Favorite Good Scholarship
This scholarship gives preference to a student majoring in English.
Issac and Mary Good Scholarship
This scholarship is given to a student based on need.
Jacob Calvin and Belle Leonard Good Scholarship
A student majoring in English is eligible for this scholarship.
Leonard Phelps and Yoshie Good Scholarship
Preference will be given to English majors who plan to pursue graduate studies.
Anne Jones Griffin Scholarship
Established in her daughter's memory, Jerri Jones intents that this scholarship go to an art, math or music education major.
Lois Gillis Hall Scholarship
Established by Myrtle Stevens to honor this 1918 graduate and Hall of Fame recipient. The scholarship is for a student needing financial assistance.
Dr. Edith Hammond Scholarship
This scholarship is unrestricted and honors the chemistry instructor.
Ann Marie Hooper Harrison Scholarship
Established by the 1956 graduate and Hall of Fame recipient, Ann Marie Harrison, this scholarship will be awarded to students in the fine arts.
Barbara Gardiner Hearon Scholarship
The scholarship is intended to assist a female junior or senior majoring in education.
Dr. Jeane Porter Hester Scholarship
This scholarship is to assist a female student who might otherwise not be able to continue her education.
Diana Wight Hill Scholarship
Established by Dr. Nancy Warden and friends to honor her memory, this scholarship is available to a junior or senior student needing financial assistance.
Phyllis E. Hillery Scholarship
Wishing to help her alma mater, Phyllis established this scholarship for juniors or seniors. First preference is for a Native American. Secondary preference is for a biology or pre-physical therapy major.
Lynda Hanna Holding Scholarship
Established by Sue Caldwell Smith, class of 1949, this scholarship is to be awarded to an elementary education major.
Mark Walter Howery Scholarship
This scholarship is to be used for an American young man born of American parents, second or third year student in any discipline.
Harold and Kay Jackson Scholarship
Chickasha business owners, Harold and Kay Jackson, established this scholarship to give to the community. The scholarship preference is for students majoring in education.
Phyllis June O’Dell James Scholarship
Established by Francis Ellis Ziegler, the need based scholarship is intended to assist an early childhood education major.
Marjorie Foncannon Johnson Scholarship
This scholarship is based on need.
Dr. Venetta Bynum Kell Scholarship
In honor of Dr. Kell's educational career, Ann Kell established this unrestricted scholarship in her mother's memory.
Danny and Todd Kelly Scholarship
In memory of her two sons, Oweda would like for this scholarship to go to someone who plans to graduate from USAO, who needs financial assistance, with no specifics, but with a dedication to God and country.
Ella Belle Leonard Scholarship
This scholarship is intended for a student majoring in English.
Dr. Anna Lewis Scholarship
Niece Winnidell Gravitt Wilson established this scholarship for a female student studying history or social studies.
Barbara Crouch Lies Scholarship
This scholarship is designated for a voice or music education major.
Bernadene Protzman Lovell Scholarship
This scholarship is given to a student majoring in early childhood or elementary education -- preferably someone from Caddo or Grady County.
Loyal Daughters of OCW Scholarship
This scholarship is to be given to a senior student whose need is such that he/she cannot graduate without financial help.
Marion Letha Milton Scholarship
Honoring a lifelong friendship prompted Bernardyne Vipperman to establish this scholarship for a Haileyville student wishing to attend USAO.
Dr. Irene Mitchell Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dr. Ellen Taliaferro in honor of Mitchell who taught history and English at OCW in 1962. The scholarship is for students who have high educational goals and who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
Eileen Smith Mosley Scholarship
This scholarship is presented to a junior or senior student needing financial assistance to complete his or her degree.
Mary Newman Fortenberry and Dorothy Hill Kerbow established this scholarship for a drama major.
Merenda O’Bar - Memorial Scholarship
1967 graduate and Hall of Fame recipient, Angelina Merenda O’Bar and her husband Jesse established this scholarship for students enrolled in USAO’s early childhood program. Preference is given to students involved in USAO’s Student National Education Association (SNEA).
Established by a group of OCLA alumni, the scholarship is given to students majoring in one of the fine arts or in social sciences.
Patricia Cooper Percy
This scholarship is awarded on the basis of need. Preference given to a music major.
Oliver Bennett Powers Scholarship
The scholarship is to be given to a music education major needing financial assistance.
Lauraleene Baxter Price Scholarship
Eligible students include any that can demonstrate financial need, with preference given to science majors.
Kathryn Lois Quattlebaum Scholarship
This scholarship was established by her classmates and will provide help to a young woman who might not otherwise be afforded the opportunity of a quality education.
Joan Hughes Rawlings Scholarship
Established by Dr. Virginia Wenger, this scholarship is available to assist an aspiring young student wanting to receive a college education at USAO and needing financial assistance.
Mary Russell Scholarship
This scholarship is to be awarded to a home economics major. If there is no program is to be awarded on the basis of need.
Betty Sanders Scholarship
The recipient of this scholarship is someone struggling financially to receive an education.
Cecil & Norma Lea Drake Sanderson Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honor their alma mater for students having financial need.
Ina Edmondson Schowengerdt Scholarship
This scholarship was established so that students with financial difficulties can realize the dream of going to college.
Dr. Martha Shackleford Scholarship
The Martha Shackleford scholarship shall be presented to a junior or senior in the field of biological sciences. The selection shall be made by biological science faculty and alumni. Criteria considered will be grades, attitude and originality.
Ed and Aleta Walker Smalley Scholarship
This scholarship is available to a young aspiring student who wants to go to college.
Dr. Rose Marie Smith Scholarship
This award is for a junior or senior communication major.
Sue Caldwell Smith Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Sue honoring her husband James Virgil Smith. Preference is given to science majors.
Garland and Myrtle Stevens Scholarship
Preference is to be given a home economics student. If there is no program, it is to be awarded on the basis of need.
Christina Satterfield Swanson Scholarship
This scholarship is designated for a student majoring in education and needing financial assistance in order to attain a degree. The scholarship is lovingly given by Christina’s daughters, Iona Hoopert and Anna Claire Kuchto.
Dr. Clarice Tatman Scholarship
This scholarship is based on need. If given to a continuing student, grades will be considered.
J. Harper and Mary Ellen Thomas Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to a deaf education or speech pathology major.
Dr. Roy and Ruth Troutt Scholarship
A student wishing to obtain a college education, needing financial assistance and qualifying for admittance is eligible to be considered for this scholarship.
Dr. Dorothy Tulloss Scholarship
The scholarship is to be given to a woman majoring in one of the arts, preferably music.
David H. Vaughn Scholarship
Honoring their son, David Sr. and Sofia established this scholarship to assist students wishing to visit another country.
Adda Mitchell Voigt Scholarship
This scholarship is to be awarded to a student majoring in elementary education. Preferably someone who grew up on a working farm.
Fred Voigt Award for Excellence in Science
Established by daughter, Dr Virginia Roeder Wenger, the award will go to a junior or senior who is outstanding in science.
Mary Frances Willis West Scholarship
The scholarship is to be awarded to someone who loves music, is a hard worker and just needs a little help.
Nance Foules Wier Scholarship
This scholarship is to be awarded to a female student needing financial assistance. She must be a diligent student in creative writing or teaching English.
Dr. Loyce J. Willett Scholarship
Preference is to be given to a physical education/health major. The scholarship is awarded the semester the student is to do student teaching. It is not to be awarded as an athletic scholarship. In the event that a physical education/health major no longer exists at USAO, the criteria will be redirected for this scholarship.
